Diary: A Novel
By Chuck Palahniuk

Just got back after watching the Metro and there were loads of thoughts about the movie... not just the story but most of the shots are copied frame by frame from The Apartment... how Irfan Khan character was a good improvisation... and loads of others. But what got me really thinking is the Fact that this is another one of the gazillion movies in the recent times on extra-marital affairs.

To a very large extent I believe that the story lines around which cinemas are made is a depiction of what is going on in the Society we live in. Just like the early part of the 80's and a large part of the 70's were about unemployment, later part of 80's and early 90's lovers eloping. How the economic conditions are probably the most pivotal factors for the problems of the generation.

When nobody had jobs then there was no time for lover eloping, but then later in the India shining world where we are all mostly comfortable otherwise, seek and try and look very hard to find out our generation's next big problem. Its surprising how we invent our problems.

Its sad that we the generation will be known as the Extra Martial Affairs generation.

I dont know why but I guess I had lost it in me to write... nothing inspired me to write anymore...

Anyways this world cup and one man in particular has inspired me to speak out... Zidane...
I read this article in the "Times of India" which by the way is a paper I hate but this one article and excerpt from the New York Times on this genius was the most heart felt article I have read about any sports person in a long long time...

"This is painful to write. Zidane is the most genuine player of his era. He carries fame better than scores of self-marketed pretenders. When he retired, the farewells were heartfelt. When he came back, the fear was that he could singe his reputation.

Whatever happens on Sunday, he is way past that fear now. He has led France out of a tunnel that started in South Korea n 2002, when he was a wounded passenger equivalent to a bird with a broken wing. The French went out in the first round without scoring a goal.
    :
    :
    :
They belive, and , more important, he believes. We shuld have known that he would no have come back had he not sensed that there was one more tournament inside him, and a team that knew how to extract it from each of them. Intriguing to the end. Prepare for a bittersweet Sunday"

When I read sometime last year that Zidane was coming out of his retirement after a mysterious nocturnal visitation... I hoped that the french should do reasonbly well for this man people in france call the "God". Infact when he returned this is wat ppl had to say

"It's a brave decision because he is taking risks with his image," said French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes. "It shows how much he loves France. He's a great player and a great man."

He was no pretender and did not care for his reputation... he has done the impossible
already..  I call him the

"Joan of Arc of the 21st century"

There are certain players one associates their childhood with... they as kids are sinpsired by them. cheer them an cry for them... for me with the game football it was Zidane... like it is Tendulkar in cricket...

I will still love the game and admire it after they leave the sport as a man but the child in me that hung onto the sport thanks to the existence of these guys who are so close to my heart.. that child will fade away...

I hope that for one last time he Lifts the world cup again though in the hearts of hearts I know Italy is the better team and they deserve to win...

If one go through the pages of History the most common reason for wars or revolutions has been one word FREEDOM.. but when I reflect upon it the one question that always keeps coming back to me is does man really understand and desire freedom? Infact I have always belived that man's greatest fear has been from Freedom. When I saw this movie called easy rider recently a coversation between Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hooper reminded me of the exact same thing

"George Hanson: You know, this used to be a helluva good country. I can't understand what's gone wrong with it.
Billy: Man, everybody got chicken, that's what happened. Hey, we can't even get into like, a second-rate hotel, I mean, a second-rate motel, you dig? They think we're gonna cut their throat or somethin'. They're scared, man.
George Hanson: They're not scared of you. They're scared of what you represent to 'em.
Billy: Hey, man. All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs a haircut.
George Hanson: Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom.
Billy: What the hell is wrong with freedom? That's what it's all about.
George Hanson: Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different things. I mean, it's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em.
Billy: Well, it don't make 'em runnin' scared.
George Hanson: No, it makes 'em dangerous. "

When freedom from the fear of freedom is achieved I guess one goes to attain real peace..
When I saw Rang De Basanti this is exactly the thought that was running in my head... a very deep movie.. (wat a time in the movie to play Roobaroo my fav song)

The movie reminded me of how I overcame my fear of flying... I initially as a kid was very excited about a Hijackand wished it happened whenever i flew and then as as I grew up that and fear of crashing grew in me and I became scared of flying... One day when I was aboard a plane.. a thought occurred to me... look at wat flyign has done to this world.. changed it completly.. so many great things have become possible only thanks to flying... wat does the death of one person like me goign to make a diffrence and the greater good concept became clear  to me.. after that  was never scared of flying... i would never fear death from flying again because if that happens its cuase of a small glitch in something that has soo much more to offer...

I guess its now turn to fill out the list after being double tagged by both guha_b and deviously_demented.

You guys already know the rules right!!!! so will spare you the trouble of having to go thru them again..

So here come the 6 weird facts..

1) Being a film critic and admiring the works of Scorcese, Majid Majidi, Felini, Kurosawa amongst others, I surprise myself becuase I love Rajnikanth movies..have not missed any of his movies in the last 10 years he was my first super hero and his super power was primarily tossing a lit cigarette into his mouth perfectly..
2) Broken roughly about 4 crockery sets,10-12 glasses, 4 bottles of Boost playing cricket in the house when my folks went out.
3) I hate going to sleep, it always feels like i could do so much more staying awake so normally up late into the night until my body forces me to sleep.
4) Here's the catch.. once I go to sleep I hate waking up. God help the person who tries to wake me up.
5) I once taught roughly about 15 guys in the hostel during Engg days all night for the exam and was soo tired at the end of it  that I passed out at 8 in the morning and missed the eggjam, and was woken up by my freinds who came to thank me for doing the eggjam well...
6) My 14 years of schooling has been in "6" different schools.
